It takes its name from the Occitan "Nostro Damo de la Dretso", which means "Our Lady of the Right Coast", because of its dominant position above Albi and the straight and steep path that led to it. NAJAC 27kms north of Cordes, in the Aveyron department, you first discovered, on a long rocky ridge, the royal castle of Najac built by Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis (Louis IX). Top of page Aux alentours In The Surroundings The Tarn Head East now! The Tarn Valley , From St Juéry begins the upper valley of the Tarn. Here, there will be something for everyone: water sports, hiking on the GR36 or other "PR", bike rides or simply for the pleasure of the eyes. Ambialet The Tarn draws here a magnificent meander which will serve as a setting for the village of Ambialet A magnificent view of the isthmus and the valley awaits you as you climb the way of the cross to the priory. The most pronounced isthmus in Europe is the particularity of this site! Continue to criss-cross up the river, it will take you 90kms further east to Millau and from there to the dizzying Gorges de Tarn. Variante du Sentiers des Cabannes Pour les plus courageux cette variante du sentier des Cabannes, vous permettra de prendre de la hauteur pour admirer, depuis la montagne Saint Raphaël, l'isthme D'Ambialet qui est avec à peine 10 mètres, le plus étroit d'Europe. Cette balade propose sur 7kms un dénivelé positif de 300m. Il est possible de faire plus long en empruntant le sentier des Cabannes (9Kms). La Voie Verte Albi/Castres The Human Rights Path This path, south of Albi, connects Albi to Castres on a 44km route where it is easy to travel on foot or by bike. The path is a 3m wide sandblasted track that marks an old railway that winds through the Tarn countryside and presents no difficulty.
